[00:21]<+camerongray> Hey people!
[00:36]<Quantos> Heya mang
[00:36]<Quantos> How you making out?
[00:37]<Quantos> Yeah, I like to egg him on pretty good BC
[00:37]<Quantos> People wrongly assume that my nick is Spanish
[00:37]<Quantos> Some really hate filled dumb fucks out there
[00:37]<Quantos> Sorry IX
[00:38]<+camerongray> Haha, doing well, getting keys for my new flat tomrorow
[00:38]<Quantos> Oh cool, where are you moving to?
[00:38]<Quantos> I hope it's a nice flat
[00:38]<+camerongray> Not far, just across the city, yeah, it's very nice, built in 2010
[00:38]<Quantos> Oh cool
[00:39]<+camerongray> Bought it this time rather than renting so can actually do stuff to it :P
[00:39]<Quantos> Wow
[00:39]<Quantos> Congrats mang
[00:39]<Quantos> How many square?
[00:39]<+camerongray> (I may or may not already have 305m of CAT6 waiting to be installed :P)
[00:39]<Quantos> Don't kick the cat
[00:39]<Quantos> :P
[00:39]<+camerongray> haha
[00:39]<+camerongray> 70 sqare foot ish
[00:40]<Quantos> That's it?
[00:40]<+camerongray> Fairly average for around here
[00:40]<Quantos> Sounds so small
[00:40]<Quantos> I thought your putors might take up that amount of space
[00:40]<+camerongray> Yeah, land here is expensive as hell, especially in the city
[00:40]<+camerongray> haha :P
[00:40]<Quantos> Oh okay
[00:40]<Quantos> How's work going, still with the same firm?
[00:40]<+camerongray> Already ordered a tonne of built in cupboards for those
[00:40]<Quantos> Oh okay
[00:41]<+camerongray> This network installation could either be incredible, or I'll destroy the place doing it :P
[00:41]<Quantos> LMAO
[00:41]<Quantos> Can I be in charge of the cable management?
[00:42]<+camerongray> haha, probably better than me
[00:42]<Quantos> Be careful vacuuming....
[00:42]<Quantos> "Hmm, have to rewire that bank of pc's
[00:42]<+camerongray> Issue is that the floor is concrete so the only option is to run cable through the ceiling
[00:42]<Quantos> You should see the inside of my chassis, it's pretty brutal
[00:43]<+camerongray> Which I have no access to other than cutting holes in it from below and fishing wires through
[00:43]<Quantos> Ouch, what about wall channels?
[00:43]<Quantos> Like PVC pipe or something
[00:43]<+camerongray> That's the backup plan, I'd have to cut all the vertical joists so that would probably require a lot of patching
[00:43]<Quantos> Give it an industrial look
[00:43]<Quantos> Oh yeah
[00:43]<+camerongray> haha
[00:44]<+camerongray> Ahh, yeah, I'd want them hidden
[00:44]<Quantos> Conduit, that's the word I was fishing for
[00:44]<+camerongray> At least it's a modern building, most of the ones here are stone so would be even more of a nightmare
[00:44]<Quantos> Oh geeze
[00:44]<Quantos> Yeah, that would be scary, probably cost about £300 just in hammer drill bits
[00:45]<+camerongray> yep!
[00:45]<+camerongray> But yeah, if all goes to plan there should be a YouTube video series coming soon :P
[00:45]<Quantos> Excellent
[00:45]<Quantos> Can't wait
[00:47]<Quantos> Hmm, I can't get over the size of the apartment, my bedroom is about 14x20, that's 4x as big
[00:48]<Quantos> Can I ask what you paid for it?
[00:48]<+camerongray> £220k ish
[00:48]<Quantos> ACK COUGH CHOKE
[00:49]<Quantos> Yes IX
[00:49]<+camerongray> Welcome to the UK :P
[00:49]<Quantos> My whole house was less than that
[00:49]<+camerongray> Yeah, at least it's not as bad as London
[00:49]<Quantos> No way, worse?
[00:49]<+camerongray> Significantly
[00:50]<+camerongray> Wouldn't be surprised if it was double
[00:50]<Quantos> I have to wonder how people that do menial jobs live
[00:50]<Quantos> With the prices of things it can't be fun
[00:51]<Quantos> I would not want to have to work two jobs just to survive
[00:51]<+camerongray> Yeah, same
[00:52]<+camerongray> My current flat which is ex-local authority, probably still around 75sqft, 2 bedroom in a fairly meh area is £720/mo rent
[00:52]<Quantos> 75 square feet and that's two bedrooms?
[00:52]<+camerongray> Yeah, same with the new one
[00:52]<Quantos> Do you sleep standing up by any chance?
[00:53]<+camerongray> haha
[00:53]<Quantos> I can't visualize that
[00:53]<+camerongray> One is 4m x 3m, the other (that I'll be using as an office) is 3.3m x 3m
[00:53]<+camerongray> Living room is 4x4ish
[00:53]<Quantos> That's more than 75 square feet
[00:54]<Quantos> I think you're missing a zero on your calculations
[00:54]<+camerongray> Wait a second, I've cocked this up
[00:54]<Quantos> LOL
[00:54]<+camerongray> D'OH! It's square metres
[00:54]<Quantos> That's okay
[00:54]<+camerongray> That makes more sense
[00:54]<Quantos> That's a lot better
[00:54]<Quantos> So it's about 700 square feet
[00:54]<+camerongray> Now, see if the UK stuck to a single unit of measurement that would be great
[00:54]<Quantos> Just multiply by 9
[00:54]<Quantos> I know
[00:55]<Quantos> Building goods here are in imperial
[00:55]<Quantos> Unless it's steel and then it's measured in mm
[00:55]<+camerongray> haha
[00:55]<Quantos> And then there's guages
[00:55]<Quantos> Don't wanna think about it
[00:56]<+camerongray> Yeah
[00:56]<+camerongray> Should be fun though assuming all goes to plan
[00:56]<Quantos> I'm just glad that we found you a bigger place to live
[00:57]<+camerongray> haha!
[00:57]<Quantos> :P
[00:57]<Quantos> I had visions of you tripping over your servers....
[00:57]<+camerongray> LOL!
[00:57]<Quantos> Yeap, I'm a jackass
[00:58]<+camerongray> Anyway, I should probably get some sleep since I imagine I'll have to do scary legal stuff early tomorrow and need my brain to work better than it clearly is at the moment ;P
[00:58]<Quantos> Oh okay mang, you have a good night, I'm really glad that things are going well
[00:58]<Quantos> Good to chat with you
[00:59]<+camerongray> You too, You'll probably see a bunch of updates (or logs of my disasters!)
[00:59]<Quantos> Excellent
[00:59]<Quantos> I look forward to that

[23:31]<veltas> camerongray: "banggood.com" can't get over the name
[23:32]<veltas> I'm actually quite tempted to get that system, I'm looking for a smallish computer to use as a media PC in my parent's house.
[23:33]<Quantos> What system is that veltas
[23:33]<veltas> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4nYlLkX0YE
[23:33]<veltas> I may also just prowl ebay for lameware
[23:34]<Quantos> Whoever that guy is he has a nice manicure, too bad you can't understand a word he's saying....
[23:34]<Quantos> :P
[23:34]<veltas> Wow
[23:34]<Quantos> Heeee
[23:35]<Quantos> £78?
[23:35]<Quantos> Unreal
[23:36]<Quantos> That's quite the manual it has
[23:39]<Quantos> I've got to get one of those
[23:42]<veltas> Well the question is will the sound work
[23:42]<veltas> Because the sound wasn't working on the Ubuntu live cd
[23:43]<veltas> Not sure if that's just because of how Ubuntu handles proprietary software
[23:43]<Quantos> Oh
[23:44]<Quantos> I haven't seen anything but the win 10 yet
[23:45]<veltas> I'll be honest I skipped the win 10 bit lol
[23:45]<Quantos> LOL
[23:45]<veltas> I'm really uninterested in Windows at this point
[23:46]<Quantos> Yeah, I have it on a test machine and it's a frickin' nightmare
[23:46]<Quantos> Harder than hell to keep secure
[23:46]<veltas> I've also got to wonder if it keeps good performance under load, with that passive heatsink.
[23:46]<Quantos> Yeah, someone mentions dropping a lot of frames in the comments
[23:47]<Quantos> And throttling
[23:47]<veltas> Wew
[23:47]<veltas> Yeah that's not really worth it, I'd rather get a cheap "small form factor" PC and hide it somewhere than have something that's going to buckle after being used for a bit
[23:48]<Quantos> It did good on the H.264
[23:48]<Quantos> VLC looks miserable
[23:48]<veltas> I want my family to be able to watch as many stupid clips as they want without it slowing down
[23:49]<veltas> I use MPV everywhere now, even on Windows
[23:49]<Quantos> Yeah
[23:49]<Quantos> MPV?
[23:50]<veltas> It's a continuation of MPlayer
[23:50]<Quantos> Oh
[23:50]<Quantos> I'll have to check it out
[23:50]<veltas> Nothing too special but it's the most reliably good package of FFMPEG software I've found
[23:51]<veltas> e.g. you wouldn't have those VLC issues
[23:51]<Quantos> Cool
[23:51]<Quantos> Yeah
[23:51]<veltas> At the end of the day these players all use the same small collection of libraries to handle basically all the media, most of the difference is just how well they've supported hardware acceleration features etc.
[23:52]<Quantos> Yeah
[23:55]<veltas> Quantos: The market for scottish reviews of this exact PC is a bit oversaturated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wVHAHsMI-A
[23:56]<Quantos> Yeah
[23:56]<Quantos> I'm going to see what I can do for the same purpose pricewise
[23:57]<veltas> 2GB of RAM is also a bit minimal, especially for Windows but even on Linux I'd want at least 3 to throw it at my family.
[23:57]<Quantos> With real hardware at least you can support audio and video better
[23:57]<Quantos> Exactly
[23:57]<Quantos> That heatsink sucks
[23:57]<veltas> Tell me your results since I'm in the market for a media PC
[23:57]<Quantos> Okay
[23:58]<Quantos> I might get your feedback on it to for fine tuning
[23:58]<veltas> Sure
